Remember when we were in school? We used to celebrate Republic Day. We had a theme. We would hoist our pride, standing in attention paying homage to the heroes of the past who helped make this happen. We used to dress up for this special occasion. I used to wear white because that’s my favourite colour out of the three. We could wear green. We could wear orange. We could wear white. I always chose white. There is something about white that says, the days of rebellion are over, the days of unrest have come to an end, and the days of freedom and peace have finally dawned upon us.
Then came college. The same festivities were there but not celebrated religiously. We were busy and distracted by other things. The same patriotism we held on to during our school days did not carry forward however some of us always managed to dress appropriately regardless of whether we took part in the celebration or not.
Post that- it is adulting. Pure unadulterated life stress. Career. Job. Social life. Work life balance. Finances. Relationships. Social Media. Diet. Fitness. We would have Republic Day celebrations at work but we were more comfortable with it being a holiday so that we could spend that time with our family and friends. However, I love special days. Whether I’m working or not working. There is a theme to such days. We can dress up to that theme.I wore three different outfits on the same day. Read further and I will show what I’m talking about.
The elegant and my favourite- The Cream Gold Mukaish Kurta.
Last year- Republic Day celebrations commenced early. We had a flag-hoisting event at our apartment. Everyone at the apartment knows I own a design studio. Everyone there knows I love getting decked up for events and I encourage my friends and customers also. So all of the ladies decided on our WhatsApp group that we would get ready according to a theme and all of us decided to sport something based on the tri color, obviously- one of these shades. Some of my friends dropped by my studio to pick up something. Nobody wanted it to be a uniform but rather an occasion to celebrate individual personalities, all of us wanted to celebrate our republic.
I chose the Cream Gold Mukaish work Kurta for myself. It's a clean silhouette, extremely comfortable cotton and gives off the regal/classy vibe. It doesn’t necessarily shout for attention- just a sound of space.
The rich, soothing to the eye- Bottle Green Anarkali.
Since we work in retail, we cannot afford a holiday on these days as that’s when people love to drop by the studio. Since our team is working we decided we will dress up again- similar tri-colour theme. All of us have access to the outfits in the studio. We gifted each team member with a beautiful kurta which is perfect for Republic Day. Two girls who handled the production wore a Off-white Kurta with Kasavu detail and the Striped A- Line Anarkali.
The Karigars, who are primarily men, wore orange and green shirts. My graphic designer Devi and my marketing lead Aditi decided to wear a Bottle green Kasavu Saree and panel kasavu dress.
Now it was my turn. Since I wore off-white in the morning, I decided to go for a cotton crepe anarkali. I love the colour. Very calming for the eyes. The day has been interesting so far. Two outfit changes. Celebratory mood. The shop is filled with customers picking out outfits they love. I was looking forward to the evening. I had a party with a friend which means only one thing.
Get Ready With Me - I’m going to wear this Orange Kurta.
I’m going out again. You all might think I’m a social animal or something but no! Special days like national holidays which are a mark of our heritage should be celebrated in unity. I’m a firm believer of this and what better way than to get dressed in a contemporary style and celebrate traditions?
This year, for Republic Day, I have a few new outfits that I have planned. It’s all going to be customized. Let’s see. Wishing everyone a wonderful Republic Day. If at all, there are any events you’d like to dress up for, now you know where to find attractive outfits for women. We are Kerala’s number 1 homegrown designer brand.
