It's the end of the year and I think it’s important we acknowledge why Manju Warrier is a Malayalam movie and fashion royalty at the same time.
It is well established that she is an epitome of grace on screen and she carries herself gracefully off the screen as well.
We happened to be friends with her personal stylist.
The first time we met her- Manju Warrier, she was dressed in simple women’s fashion, a cool coordset. She had dropped by the studio along with her personal stylist.
She had an event. It was an award ceremony. She was being celebrated and she wanted something really elegant, very ethereal. We showcased a few outfits but she wanted to exercise the liberty to be able to browse from the options.
From the little we knew about her personal choices when it came to brands or fabric, one thing was clear: she was not very enthusiastic about opting for trendy outfits women do these days.
She moved past the dress section. Dresses, gowns, outfits with the touch of western fashion flavour, no. She wanted to embrace who she was and where she came from , an award ceremony is deeply personal.
She moved to the Anarkali section. She paused for a minute, her fingers lingered, hanger after hanger. She stopped, she picked out an off white gold anarkali. Ivory and Gold. Okay, impressive choice. She wants to go for regal.
Manju Warrier - National award winner, state award recipient, one and only, the pride of the Malayalam movie Industry, she walked out of the dressing room and she looked like this.
She brought life to the outfit. We see that outfit in a different light. The outfit bears the weight of the aura of the muse that wears it.
Ever since Manju Warrier wore that outfit, everyone wanted it. Keralites from all over the world wanted to wear that anarkali. We couldn’t handle the production in house that we were forced to outsource.
Manju Warrier’s birthday dress.
Manju Warrier’s stylist called us one day and said she needs a kurta. She needs to go to the temple and it’s her birthday. So we decided we will gift her a very soft mauve pink embroidered kurta. A warm colour, soft embroidery kurta which exudes a sense of loveliness in the person.
As a designer brand, being able to work with artists like Manju Warrier, be part of their important days, become their go to brand for occasions, we are extremely grateful for this life.
Becoming a Manju Warrier approved womenswear Brand
It’s always a win when noteworthy individuals take an affinity to our brand- Alka Hari. We feel more confident in the work we are doing and feel assured in the direction we are heading.
Here is another story, this is about friendship. This is about admiration.
One night Manju Warrier’s stylist messages us late at night. They have an event the next day. There is a wardrobe malfunction. Can we help?
Sure, why not? We share a few options, she would like to try three of them and see which is best suited for the situation and her style.
We call our production manager, round up the crew and start working till early morning. The outfits were readied and sent to Manju Warrier’s home. She tried all of them, she liked them all and she went ahead with this.
